Freelancer: A Terminology or More Than Your Assumption?
We often hear about the word "Freelancers" and a plain overview is: "Someone who is self-employed and isn't committed to a particular employer". There is no official count of freelancers & estimated 54+ million are freelancers in America alone, excluding rest of the world. Now, freelancer is a community in itself, growing worldwide, defeating restrictions of boundaries and connects people who are like minded and believe in "Talents beyond boundaries’". Freelancers are beyond number now and most preferred profession that lets you explore your capabilities yourself. Moreover, you get paid for your dedication and hard-work invested to accomplish a project assigned. Possible reason for wide acceptability of freelancer is: you are not bound to particular employer and can work with whomsoever you mutually agree with or assigned to and charge according to Per-Project, a piece rate or Day & hour basic for service rendered.
Skills Required - Want to be a Freelancer?
It’s not
everyone’s cup of tea as you need to be skilled enough to promote yourself and
accomplish the project or task assigned. Ask a question to yourself. Would you
prefer a random guy to drive your car and drop you to destination safely? Obviously
not! Same formula applied by the employer upon a freelance. If you have desired
skills (i.e. App Development, Customer service, Coding, Digital Marketing, Blog
Management etc) you both are winner. The employer isn’t choosing you just
because you got skills but a freelancer saves big bucks for their company too.
Let’s also discuss the key points to consider before choosing an informal
professional career like “Freelancing”.
- Know your worth and don’t settle for too low, when it comes to charging for your service.
- Don’t get carried away, keep track of your working hours.
- Select your project wisely. Not everything available is meant for you.
- Be patient; sometimes it just take time to find the right project.
Pros & Cons - Every role has its shares of ups and downs, same goes with Freelancing.
Freelancing
is like living your passion and dream together but you need bucks to live your
dreams, isn’t it?. Therefore, it gives you the platform to project &
promote yourself to a much wider audience than you could have reached out to on
your own. Above all, you are not bound to anyone specific and can work from
your place of preference, may be from a coffee shop or sitting around a beach.
Amazing!! Yes, that’s the freedom most of us thrive for.
If we talk about the cons then it could
completely change your perception towards freelancing and vanish your
fascination for independent working environment as there is no guarantee of
payment and the work can be highly precious.
Now, freelancer is not just a Hobby, it’s a “Profession”.
